About Loon Writers

Loon Writers was born out of a desire to create a community for writers in northern Minnesota.

 

Virtual workshops expand our community around the world, but the heart of Loon Writers remains in the lakes country.

​

Just like the muses, when a loon calls, you listen. 

Meet Loon Writer, Jenny

Jenny Sheets, founder of Loon Writers, has been a professional writer for several decades. Her passion for writing traces all the way back to her kindergarten journal (which she still has) and her first book: The Pickle Family (which she swears her parents have, but can't locate in their very full attic).

​

She loves pouring words onto the page and has a real passion for helping others find their spark of creativity. She loves leading Loon Writing Workshops for those near and far.

​

Jenny has an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Montana and has taught writing at Montana State University, North Dakota State University, Anoka Ramsey Community College, University of Montana, and Gallatin County Detention Center.

​

In between writing, Jenny runs a social design firm called Discover Outdoors that designs events, programs, and places to strengthen human connections.

 

She has one husband, one five-year-old named Henry Danger, and one giant golden doodle named Bernard Polka Dot.
